Challenge
Need the Ability to Add Their Own Interior Accessories
SOLUTION
X-ONE'S 0.125" ALUMINUM CONSTRUCTION MAKES CUSTOMIZATION EASY
The Hartford Volunteer Fire Department needed a truck cap that would allow them to add their own hooks, mounts, and interior accessories to organize their gear exactly how they wanted it. It needed to be built from a material that would be strong enough to support those additions without compromising the structure of the cap, as well as offer plenty of interior wall space to work with.
The X-ONE was the perfect fit. Built entirely from 0.125" thick marine-grade aluminum, the walls of the X-ONE are more than capable of handling additional hooks, mounts, and brackets. Drilling into the aluminum to fasten accessories is easy, and anything added is secured to a material that can take the load. This gives Hartford's crew the freedom to configure the interior of their cap however they see fit, and adjust it as their needs evolve over time. No flimsy walls. No worrying about whether a mount will hold. Just a solid aluminum structure that's ready to be put to work.
Challenge
Need Secure and Organized Bed Storage for Oxygen Tanks and Smaller Items
SOLUTION
DUAL BED-SLIDES WITH HEAVY-DUTY WEIGHT CAPACITY
The ability to transport oxygen tanks was very important for the Hartford Volunteer Fire Department. They needed a storage solution that could safely house the tanks while also providing additional space for smaller apparatus and medical equipment. Equally important was the need to keep these items separated because they didn't want their oxygen tanks and loose gear to share the same space.
To solve this, they opted to equip their cap with split/dual bed-slides. These heavy-duty pull-out beds give the crew easy access to their stored equipment without having to climb into the back of the truck or reach deep inside. One slide can be dedicated to oxygen tank storage, while the other handles smaller gear and miscellaneous apparatus. The weight capacity of the bed-slides ensures that even fully loaded with tanks and equipment, everything stays organized and secure whether in transport or while beings used on-scene.
Challenge
Need to Store Stokes Basket
SOLUTION
CUSTOM INTERIOR SHELVING
Stokes baskets critical pieces of equipment for any fire department, but they aren't always easy to store for transport. We built the team at Hartford some custom shelving that made room for their stokes basket while still keeping the rest of their stored items organized and accessible below. The shelving had to be durable and heavy-duty. We built them from the same 0.125" thick aluminum to ensure the shelf is more than capable of supporting the stokes basket and any additional gear stored on top or inside.
The shelving also serves as a divider, keeping the lower bed storage area separate and accessible without interference from the items stored above. It's a purpose-built solution that ensures Hartford's crew can get to what they need, when they need it, without having to dig through a pile of gear.
Challenge
Need as Much Storage Space as Possible.
SOLUTION
REMOVE TAILGATE OPTION FOR MAXIMUM STORAGE SPACE
Sometimes, a few extra inches of storage length can make all the difference. Hartford Volunteer Fire Department needed a bit more room in the bed of their Silverado to fit everything they carry on a regular basis. The solution was our removed tailgate option, which extends the usable storage space of the cap to the very end of the truck bed.
Removing the tailgate and incorporating those extra inches into the cap's design was done without compromising the integrity or structural strength of the unit. The X-ONE is still a fully enclosed, one-piece aluminum cap with just a little more room to work with. And despite the tailgate removal, the design maintains a sleek, clean look that doesn't sacrifice aesthetics. Hartford gets the extra storage space they need without the cap looking like an afterthought.
Challenge
Weather Proofing is Critical for Stored Equipment
SOLUTION
AUTOMOTIVE GRADE BULB SEAL ON ALL DOORS OF THE CAP
For a fire department, the gear stored in the truck cap needs to be clean, dry, and ready to go at a moment's notice. Hartford Volunteer Fire Department needed to ensure that their stored items were fully protected from the elements. Rain and snow are obvious concerns, but also important is keeping smoke, dust, and dirt out of the cap and away from the gear their team relies on. Contaminated equipment isn't just inconvenient, it can be a safety hazard.
To address this, every door on all of our X-ONE's are equipped with an automotive grade bulb seal. This is the same type of seal you'd find on a car door, and it provides a tight, reliable seal that keeps moisture, dust, smoke, and other contaminants out of the cap's compartments. Whether the truck is driving through a wildfire smoke zone, down a dusty back road, or sitting outside in a downpour, the contents of the cap stay dry, clean, and protected.
